Middlemore Hospital’s pediatric ward enjoyed a colourful visit by the cars and characters of the Variety Trillian Bash, a group of classic-car lovers who believe in having fun while doing good for others. Among this year’s enthusiasts were business owners Michelle Greer from Ray White Timaru and Ray White Papanui.
The ‘Bash’ raises money for Variety – The Children’s Charity – with the 18 participating teams paying a generous donation to take part in an event where they got to wear colourful themed costumes and drive their treasured pre-1970’s cars whilst entertaining the kids that they visited. Among the kids visited during the annual three-day event were the young patients at Kids First Children’s Hospital, Middlemore. The teams delivered fun, gifts and goody bags to everyone they could. Around 30 patients were able to leave the ward to be entertained by the ‘Bashers’.
Bash director, Murray O’Donnell said, “the three-day event also had a heavy schedule of school visits that included a visit to Waiheke Island for a large number of underprivileged children; a day I’m sure they’ll never forget thanks to the support of our volunteers, Sealink and Ecozip“.
Michelle added, “there are some sick kids out there who miss out on fun like this so it’s great that we could take the fun to them. It was so rewarding to see these kids eyes light up and forget, if just for a short while, as we entertained them along with the numerous celebrities who joined us along the way”.
