South Africa, United Kingdom, Middle East, Australia, China and the USA. Rob and Joanne Wheater have lived all over the world for more than 20 years of their lives, but eventually the call of home, and Hawkes Bay particularly, was just too strong to ignore any longer.
Enter 54 Aintree Road in Havelock North.
“I was born and bred in Hawkes Bay, and despite some of the incredible places we’ve lived in across the globe, there’s nothing quite like home,” said Mr Wheater.
“We were back from the US one Christmas six years ago and after I headed back to the States, my wife viewed this house, fell in love with it and we just had to buy it.
“The glorious 270-degree views are to die for – on one side you have Te Mata Peak and on the other you have the glorious Ranges.
“When you’re in the kitchen and cooking it’s quite easy to forget you’re in the family home because the views are just that captivating.
“We’re quite elevated but are lucky to have a little hill behind us because that protects us from the southerly and westerly winds.
“We’ve added a pool to the property and the massive deck, that has big folding doors straight out on to it, leads straight to the pool area.
“The roof for the deck is cleverly angled upwards, meaning in winter the sun can stream through the living rooms and in summer, provides shade for the decked area.”
Ms Wheater reflected on some of the wonderful memories the home had given them and the wonder that is Hawkes Bay.
“We have some terrific memories here and without doubt it’s a wonderful home that’s well served to warmth and harmony inside,” she said.
“We have many visitors staying with us often with their children and there’s plenty of room for everyone. We have massive flat lawns that are perfect for the kids to get out and play on and the rooms inside are really well-sized, meaning it’s never cramped.
“We have over 8,000sq m for everyone to enjoy and we even have someone who brings his sheep to graze out on our paddock to keep the lawns maintained. We do have neighbours but they are far enough away that you have a great feeling of privacy.
“Hawkes Bay itself is absolutely beautiful. It’s regularly bathed in beautiful sunshine and is very well known for wineries, restaurants, golf and beaches. It’s just a wonderful place to be.
“The time has come to move on and give another family the chance to create memories like we have here. Moving is what we do, but this time we’re staying closer to home, moving to another part of the lovely town of Havelock North.”
Ray White Hastings Sales Agent Zak Marsden said he was thrilled to be representing the Wheaters in selling their home.
“The property is altogether exceptional, with many options available depending on a buyer’s personal needs,” Mr Marsden said.
