Ray White New Zealand once again entered a team into the Sky Tower Stair Challenge held on Friday 1 August. This years team was once again led by CEO Carey Smith along with team members Wayne Maguire and Natasha Patel from Ray White Mission Bay, and Delanie Horrobin and John Tanner from Ray White Auckland City Apartment Rentals. Another of the Ray White offices, Ray White Pinehill, also got involved in this years event – led by team leader Stephen Burdett.
The Sky Tower Stair Challenge involved running up 51 stories of Sky Tower in support of the Leukemia and Blood Cancer Foundation of New Zealand (LBC). Every day six children and adults in New Zealand are diagnosed with a blood cancer like leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma. This years event proudly raised over $250,000 for the charity. As LBC receives no government funding the funds will be used to help the charity grow their services – enabling them to support patients and their families across the country, as well as providing information and education sessions, support and funding for research, and raising awareness about the diseases and advocating on behalf of patients.
Wayne Maguire from Ray White Mission Bay, who also competed in the Ray White New Zealand team at last years event, said that the Sky Tower Stair Challenge remains an extremely demanding course. “We each had our own personal goals and took our training and the event quite seriously, but nothing can ever quite prepare you for running up 51 flights of stairs… It really is a unique opportunity, and it is an event and a charity that we are proud to be able to support each year.”
Carey Smith said that it was “wonderful to be able to engage the support of our Ray White members together with family, friends and other business associates, and also see fellow offices join in at this years event. “While the physicality of the challenge itself was something that we all enjoyed, it is the success of all the teams fundraising efforts that provides the most benefit for the community and we are once again proud to be a part of that.”
