Wellington Around the Bays celebrated its 40th birthday in force with a record number of 14,300 competitors taking part in the event on Saturday, 19 February. New offices to the Ray White group, Ray White Wellington City and Ray White Kilbirnie, couldn’t help but enter a team and dress up in yellow for the occasion. The Ray White team was lead by Carl Perkins, General Manager, who said, ‘Around the Bays is such wonderful event to be involved in under our new colours, we all had a blast and we’re proud to represent Ray White”.
Carl put together a video of the event, click here to watch.
The Wellington region is very active in sport and exercise, in general, this year. Ray White Johnsonville Salesperson Bronwyn Shields is a Wellington shooting superstar. Bronwyn has recently won the 2017 combined Manawatu Air and Air Rifle New Zealand Nationals Championships with a total score of 241.8. The competition was a 40 shot match, top 8 make the final to then start from scratch following into elimination rounds. Bronwyn said ‘It was high pressure in the final, the crowd were clapping and cheering which made it hard to keep calm and focused’. Bronwyn is now hunting down selection for the 2018 Commonwealth Games held in the Gold Coast.
The Commonwealth Games requirement is to achieve a score of 412 in a 40 shot match – twice, with one competition needing to be international. Once the score has been achieved twice, then Bronwyn can apply for a quota place for the New Zealand team.
Bronwyn has been shooting small bore indoor (25 yards) with a .22 calibre rifle since 2001, the following year she started shooting the air rifle. ‘Training, training and more training is key getting a clear shot, as much as it looks easy, shooting is very much a metal sport which requires a considerable amount of practice’ Bronwyn said. Her next competitions could potentially be in Germany towards the end of the year, Oceania’s in November with a few competitions in Australia in between.
Bronwyn is in her first year in Real Estate, coming from an Accounting background. She is part of the Leaders Wellington offices rebrand, which transitioned over to Ray White on 1 February 2017.
The Ray White Leaders team, as well as Ray White New Zealand, are very proud of Bronwyn in her dedication in competing at this level – it is world class.
