Marzi van der Mark, Licensee Salesperson at Ray White Taupo committed to a brave selfless event for a close friend. On Marzi’s fundraising page on she describes that this all began in unbelief. The lack of faith that one of her dearest friends would never be granted residency in New Zealand. Having moved from South Africa herself, she understood the stress and the daunting process is was to become a New Zealand resident.
In a moment of motivation, Marzi and her friend decided that the day she was granted her residency they both will shave their heads for cancer! Once this pact was agreed upon, months continued to go past without any word of her friend’s residency being any closer. Out of the blue one morning, Marzi received a text… her friend had been granted her residency! Mariz shares that, ‘in that moment I was truly so happy and devastated at the exact same time. This is great news but what have I done, I have to shave my head and right before winter!’
As the news settled and Marzi came to terms with what will happen, she thought about the people who do not have a choice about loosing not only their hair but so much more in the process of healing from cancer. Marzi became excited with the opportunity to make a difference in their lives by sacrificing something so simple as hair.
The deadline to shave her head came in late June, Ray White Taupo hosted a South African-style sausage sizzle together with raffle tickets being sold on the day for some pretty cool package prizes which all together, Marzi raised over $1,000.00 for The Cancer Society.
Marzi said, “The work that Cancer Society do for people in New Zealand makes a huge difference in the lives not only for those with cancer but for the people that love them. New Zealand is wonderful country and I am blessed and honoured to be a part of it. Thank you very much for your support, it is truly appreciated. “
Ray White Taupo Business Owner, Trevor Dolman said, “Marzi, having kept her commitment to her friend about her getting New Zealand residency is a testament to not only her friendship but own personal values. She did a wonderful job in preparation for her “head shave” in aid of cancer research. She arranged for various sponsorship and prizes for raffles from various businesses, stood outside Countdown with her appeal bucket, and arranged for a BBQ at our office on event day. The day of her “head shave” was a very memorable day for Marzi, family, team colleagues and visitors, this happening at our Ray White Taupo office. Her efforts were rewarded with achieving more than 20% over her appeal goal. We are all very proud of Marzi, for all her efforts and being very brave with this appeal. A grand effort indeed.”
