Ray White Remuera recently cooked an evening meal for the 120 Mums, Dads, and kids staying at Ronald McDonald House Auckland.
Arriving mid-afternoon, the 12+ staff, a mixture of agents, property managers and admin, set to peeling truckloads of carrots, potatoes and kumara and getting 30 chickens in the oven ready for a 6pm service. While all 6 ovens were full of chickens and roast vegetables and a pot of homemade gravy was being stirred on the stove, two enormous bowls were filled to the brim with cream, berries, meringues and marshmallows.
Ray White has been a proud sponsor of Ronald McDonald House since 2007. With three locations across the country they aim to provide a home away from home for families coping with seriously ill children. Located alongside Starship Hospital in Auckland, the house started out in 1994 with only 10 rooms. Expanding over the years, across 2014 the house accommodated over 2,000 families.
Afterwards the Ray White Remuera team said it was a successful night for all concerned, with the camaraderie and friendships forged in the kitchen being enhanced by the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of people struggling with the discomfort of being away from home in a strange city with sick children.
“For one night at least, we felt we had given them a meal that tasted like home. Many came up to us and were very thankful for a hearty meal that they hadn’t had to think about preparing for themselves.”
Business owner Megan Jaffe organised and participated in this memorable night. “At the end as we were cleaning up, all we could talk about was what we were going to put on the menu for the next one!”
