Maraetai Beach Boat Club was bursting at the seams on Friday night 16th October as 16 enthusiastic and competitive teams took to their seats for the annual Maraetai Sailing Club Quiz Night.
This increasingly popular and well-supported fundraiser has been supported by Rex and Brianne Bignell of Ray White Lighthouse (Beachlands and Maraetai) over the last two years, as an extension of their overall principal sponsorship of the growing club.
This year’s event raised $4,000 – money that will go straight back into funding the Club’s junior sailing programme – of which now has 40+ members, many of them junior sailors and set to grow as the community continues to expand through intensified development in the area.
The night owed much of its success to the great support, sponsorship and contribution of local businesses, most notably the team at Ray White Lighthouse and Matt Hodges at Marina Supplies, another local business based at Pine Harbour Marina.
Some of the items auctioned on the night included a brand new Viking kayak, a Seagull outboard motor and a half hour flight on a Tiger Moth. There was keen bidding throughout the night, with the Tiger Moth flight, powerboat ride and kayak proving very popular.
The auctions were called by Ray White’s very own Corporate Auctioneer, Tim Obern, who masterfully achieved top dollar for each and every item.
The raffle and silent auction proved hugely popular, as did the complimentary plate of hot appetisers provided mid-way through the evening courtesy of the caterer in the restaurant upstairs.
Organiser Kirsten Hewitt said, “the night was a huge success and our thanks go out to all involved for making it so.”
