October auctions finish a treat in Christchurch

Buyers were anything but spooked in the lead-up to Halloween as Ray White offices across Christchurch produced a treat with nine out of 10 properties selling at auction for $6,200,000.

The results capped off a fantastic month of auctions in the Garden City of the Plains with the auction day clearance rate sitting at 80 per cent – a massive 23.9 per cent up on October 2019.

“There’s absolutely no stopping this market right now – anyone thinking things would start to slow down in Christchurch as we head towards the festive period should think again,” said Ray White New Zealand South Island Regional Manager Jane Meyer.

“We had more than 60 registered bidders competing for the 10 properties so that leaves over 50 finance-ready buyers going back out into the market who are actively looking to buy now.”

The stand-out came courtesy of Ray White Town and Lifestyle Salesperson Lewis Donaldson as he sold 144 Bridle Path Road (pictured above) in Heathcote Valley for $950,000.

The property attracted multiple groups to the ‘meet the agent onsite times’ during the campaign and that culminated in 10 registered buyers on the day – two of whom actively competed.

“To have 60 groups through for a lifestyle piece of land with no dwelling on it is quite incredible and is testament to the strength in the market right now – there are so many active buyers,” Mr Donaldson said.

“Another example of this was an auction we had last week where we had a massive 95 groups through just one hour’s worth of open home time – now is the time to be listing and selling your property for sure.”
