Ray White Kingsland is proud to be appointed to one of Auckland’s historic square front villa homes in Western Springs that is known to be one of the first homes built in the area.
The Western Springs villa has been in the same family since the 1800’s and was built by James Young in 1885, who came to Auckland in 1842 as a 10 year old with his parents. The family home originated as a 32 hectare farmland named Arch Hill after James Young’s father’s home town in Northern Ireland of the same name. The Arch Hill name is still used today in identifying the suburb next to Kingsland.
The home features four bedrooms and sits on a 797sqm north facing section. One of the more interesting features of the house is the 21 fruit trees which were planted over four generations ago. They were planted on the property to provide self sufficiency at the time and it was a popular pastime for the children to sell the fruit from the trees each Saturday afternoon.
Lesley and Ruth Hawes of Ray White Kingsland, who have been appointed to market the property, said that they were proud to submit the property to auction on 16 July. Lesley said that the home has had great interest as it provides endless opportunities to renovate and bring the home up to the next level while retaining the period features from the original build date of 1885.
