Ray White Half Moon Bay entered a team into the Stepember Challenge to raise funds and awareness for people living with Cerebral Palsy. The team, called “Half Moon Bay Chicks”, consisted of Debbie Beale-O’Connor, Victoria Carter, Tracey Monaghan and Jo Morris.

The challenge was for each team member to take step 10,000 steps per day and to reach their fundraising target of $1,000 within the 28 days.

Over the four weeks, the “Half Moon Bay Chicks” held three fundraising events, two whereby they sold “homemade baking” to work colleagues of Mountfort real estate salespeople on their caravan and training days. The third event was a girl’s night at the movies featuring the new Bridget Jones’s Baby movie and a glass of wine. The “Half Moon Bay Chicks” sold a total of 100 tickets and also sold raffle tickets on the night for two gift baskets which were put together with the help of surrounding local Half Moon Bay businesses. The team have also had the generosity of Bob Mountfort, Director of Ray White Half Moon Bay, who donated $500 to the team for their efforts.

Wednesday, 28 September, was the last day of the Stepember Challenge and as at 5:00pm the “Half Moon Bay Chicks” were in 6th place in New Zealand for fundraising out of 3,067 nationwide teams and coming 150th worldwide.

The “Half Moon Bay Chicks” exceeded their fundraising goal and raising a total of $2,844.80. Every dollar of this money will help provide for vital equipment, therapy, programs, and help groundbreaking research into the prevention and maybe even one day, a cure for the children and adults living with cerebral palsy.

The “Half Moon Bay Chicks” walked 1,286,510 steps over the 28 days which equates to approx. 800km. The ladies were dedicated to achieving their goal of 10,000 steps each and every day, which on some days meant doing a last burst of exercise at 10pm in the evening in order to get steps in. All of the ladies supported and motivated each other to the end achieving a great result for cerebral palsy.
