Ray White Balclutha agent Adraian Stott was so delighted when her niece Kristie Leonard heeded her advice to enter the Miss Universe New Zealand 2013 contest that she decided to support her with sponsorship.
Following the initial contest, Balclutha Primary School teacher Kristie was selected as the only South Otago representative among 20 Miss Universe New Zealand candidates for October national finals.
20 year old Kristie who has a background in modern dance and studied at Otago University is a typical southern girl, born and raised on a sheep farm, she loves the outdoors and plays rugby!
Miss Universe is no longer seen as ”just a beauty pageant”, with successful contenders expected to also demonstrate an ”intelligent, well-mannered and cultured” attitude, as well as participating in an entrepreneurial challenge, fundraising for children’s charity Variety. Fun loving Kristie is rising to this challenge with a goal to raise $10,000. She is well on her way undertaking car washes, fashion evenings, barbeques, business mufti days and even shearing sheep on the Octagon in Dunedin. She hopes that the South Otago community will get behind her by text voting to contribute 99 cents per text and hopefully take Kristie through to the top 10 finalists!
Adraian, who joined Ray White Balclutha in 2008, has provided financial sponsorship throughout Kristie’s campaign, as well as attending all of her fundraising events. Adraian says “Kristie has put in 110% effort raising funds for the Variety charity and has received tremendous support from the businesses in Dunedin and Balclutha. The Balclutha community is thrilled to have a contestant going through to the finals, so there is plenty of public support for Kristie.”
Kristie’s progress can be followed on Facebook .
Good luck Kristie!
