Exceptional Ohope Beach home sells for NZ$3.65M at auction

An incredible award-winning Ohope Beach home has sold for a massive NZ$3,650,000 under the hammer – more than double its CV of NZ$1,570,000 – at 165 Pohutukawa Avenue.

The four-bedroom, three-bathroom house in the Whakatane District attracted 15 registered buyers, and Ray White Ohope Salesperson Tony Bonne said it offered a dream beach lifestyle.

“This is a very special property and it commanded a strong price because the well-designed home with spectacular beach views sits at a prestigious address in Ohope,” Mr Bonne said.

“We had around 40 inspections and six of the 15 registered bidders were active because they recognised that this property is one that only comes up once in a blue moon.

“The eventual lucky winning bidders were an Auckland retired professional couple coming home. He was born in Taneatua, just south of Whakatane.”

Ray White Ohope Auctioneer Wayne Olver (pictured below left), who successfully called the exceptional result, said there were 57 bids in total.

“The bidding started at NZ$2,000,017 and immediately jumped to NZ$2,500,00 for the second bid – such was the competition for this magnificent property,” Mr Olver said.

“Bidding was highly active until it got to NZ$3,000,000 – it then came down to two passionate buyers – with the winning bidder walking away with the keys at NZ$3,650,000.”

Mr Bonne said one of the many drawcards to this home was the incredible, uninterrupted views of the sand and surf of Ohope Beach.

“This home offers an absolute beachfront position in Ohope’s Golden Mile, bordering a reserve that allows for that extra space this property commands, if needed,” he said.

“It’s perfect for entertaining family and friends as the large open decks spill out from the dining and lounge areas seamlessly.

“The ground-floor living area is modern and open-plan with a custom-made ultimate entertainer’s gourmet kitchen.

“It features granite bench tops surrounded by recycled timber cabinetry, induction cooktop, dual sinks, Bosch dishwasher, two-door plumbed in fridge-freezer, wine fridge, cork flooring, and of course, spectacular views of the beach.

“The dining room has double sliding doors opening out to the open living deck and during the winter a log gas fire separates the dining and lounge.

“The lounge, like the dining room, has the large sliding doors opening out to the beach. These areas combine effortlessly to create spaces, all while maintaining clever design.

“This incredible home ticked every single box, and then some. The lucky new owners will enjoy every aspect of the property.”
