Peter Belcher of Ray White Takanini recently helped organise a Fun Run day for the Addison community.
Peter has been farming the Addison area for years and has maintained regular involvement in the community and events in that time. These events include community BBQ’s, Halloween events for the kids and Easter Eggs hunts on the commons.
The idea for the Fun Run was conceived at the last Easter Egg hunt while Ben Reugg from the residents society and Peter were watching the kids hunt for eggs. Ben had been on a personal fitness campaign and had lost 30kg in six months and suggested a fun run, it took them a couple of meetings to thrash out the concept and promotional plan to get the community involved including approaching the local businesses for prizes and sponsorship.
The route for the run was kept through the streets of the Addison community so the runners didn’t cross the main roads, a 2.5 km circuit with the kids doing a single lap and the adults run/walk being two laps.
The response from all parties was amazing, with online promotion and registration through Facebook with almost daily updates on the events progress. Local businesses supported the event with vouchers and prizes for the various category winners.
As major sponsor Peter provided prizes for the first place runners, as well as porta loos, BBQ, sausages and marquees for registration and prize giving. Fantastic support was also given from the team at Ray White Takanini throughout the day from assisting at marshalling points to helping with the BBQ and prize giving.
Peter said “The event was a huge success with 120 runners on the day and around 60 others from the community there to support the event. The Ray White team were brilliant helping with every aspect of the organising on the day including a few runners. We are now being pressured to put the event on twice a year.”
