Make a date for November 21 – the 2014 Wanganui Sports Awards, one of the most eagerly-anticipated events on the region’s sporting calendar.
The date for the popular awards night was announced yesterday, with real estate company Ray White Wanganui returning as principal sponsor.
The prestigious event sees Wanganui, Rangitikei and Ruapehu’s sporting communities come together to recognise and celebrate the achievements of sports people around our region.
The awards will again be held at the Wanganui Racecourse, and nominations will open in the next month, including an online nomination facility.
Last year 370 people attended the awards night and presentations were made in 13 categories from 87 nominations.
Always a highlight of the proceedings is the induction of members to the Wanganui District Council Hall of Fame, where outstanding Wanganui achievers from the past are acknowledged.
There is also the Sport Wanganui Roll of Honour which recognises those volunteers who have contributed 25 years of service.
Sport Wanganui chief executive Danny Jonas said yesterday he was delighted to partner with Ray White Wanganui “who have taken this opportunity to give back to the wider community”.
Further information about the awards is available on the Sport Wanganui website www.sportwanganui.co.nz
